Summer Knits & playlist

¿Quién dice que el verano no está hecho para tejer? ¿No es el momento en el que podemos tener tiempo para nosotr@s y hacer lo que queramos? Para mí eso significa tiempo para hacer algunos bocetos y pintar con acuarelas, tomar algún cóctel... y cómo no, ¡tejer! Está claro que quizá no apetece tejer con lanas -y más cuando estamos tan cerca del mar y la humedad hace que sea más complicado para la fibra deslizarse entre los dedos-, pero para eso tenemos algodones, bambú, lino y sedas.   

Who says Summer time is not Knitting time? Isn't it the best season to take time for oneself and do whatever you like? In my case besides doing some sketches and watercolors and perhaps drinking a cocktail...it is to knit!  Of course one does not want to knit with woolen yarns, specially when you are close to the sea, as the humidity makes it harder for the fiber to flow between your fingers, but it is the perfect time for cotton, bamboo, linen or silky yarns.

Vinnis Colours Bambi - Dark Denim

Hace muy poquito he acabado el jersey Nouri diseñado por Carol Feller que aparece en la edición de verano 2016 de Pompom magazine. Para este proyecto veraniego elegí unos maravillosos ovillos algodón y bambú orgánicos de la marca sudafricana Vinnis Colours. La última edición de la revista Pompom está repleto de increíbles patrones y justo tenía la fibra perfecta para esta prenda. Vinnis Colours Bambi encajó perfectamente con la tensión del patrón. El color Dark Denim y la textura son indescriptibles. Mi hija Julia es la afortunada nueva dueña de esta prenda veraniega, pero ya estoy pensando en tejerme uno para mí...

I have recently finished my Nouri pullover by Carol Feller featured in the Summer 2016 Pompom magazine. Knitted in an amazing organic cotton and bamboo yarn by the South African brand Vinnis Colours it has been a great summer project. This last edition of Pompom mag is full of amazing knits and I was lucky to have the right yarn to match this project. Vinnis Colours Bambi worked perfectly and the texture and colour Dark Denim is just incredible. My daughter Julia is the lucky owner of this summer cardigan and now I am thinking of knitting one for myself....

Otro proyecto clásico para tejer en verano es un bolso. Hace ya algún tiempo encontré este patrón gratuito de Espace Tricot y no me lo pensé dos veces. La fibra que elegí para este proyecto no podía ser otra: Sparrow, el lino orgánico de Quince and Co, en los colores Blue Spruce and Juniper. Sparrow es sin duda uno de mis linos favoritos, rústico, pero a la vez elegante y suave. 

Another summer classics is a string bag. I found some time ago a beautiful free pattern by Espace Tricot and I did not think it over twice.  Of course the yarn I used for this project was Quince and Co Sparrow organic linen in Blue Spruce and Juniper. Sparrow is one of my favorite linen yarn, rustic but so elegant and soft.

La base de este patrón se teje en recto y luego se cogen los puntos de alrededor para comenzar a tejerlo en redondo. Además, este es un patrón que se puede modificar fácilmente, basta añadirle más rayas o diferentes colores. ¿No os parece un bolso perfecto para esos paseos de verano por alguno de los pueblos de la costa?

The bottom of this pattern is knit flat and then stitches are being picked up for knitting in the round. Of course this pattern is easy to customize adding more stripes or colors. Isn't it the perfect bag for casual summer walks through little beach towns?

El verano también es el momento para comenzar a tejer un patrón más complejo, que necesite algo más de concentración, como este maravilloso chal calado, el Winter Thaw de Beata Jezek que podéis descargar gratuitamente. Me encantó el resultado que conseguí con Hedhogfibers Kidsilk Lace, aunque otra alternativa fantástica es la Silkpaca de Malabrigo en color Azul Profundo, una fibra súper ligera y suave compuesta por baby alpaca y seda. Seguro que este chal se podría convertir en el centro de todas las miradas de alguna fiesta veraniega, así que... ¡prepárate para los piropos!

Of course summer is also a good moment for knitting a more tangy project, that demands some concentration as this beautiful lace shawl. Winter Thaw by Beata Jezek is another free download which looks stunning in Hedhogfibers Kidsilk Lace. Another alternative for this project is Malabrigo's Silkpaca in Azul Profundo, a super light and soft baby alpaca and silk yarn. 
For sure if you are wearing this shawl at any summer Cocktail Party it will be an eye-catcher. So be prepared for compliments!!
