Creative Weekends: Versante

Esta antigua banqueta para maletas de un hotel llevaba ya algún tiempo rondando por mi patio. Aun estando deteriorada y oxidada le veía mucho potencial y, justo al recibir la nueva pintura para exterior Autentico Versante en OPENstudio79, se me ocurrió la transformación ideal para ella. Hoy os traigo un tutorial para un Creative Weekend en el que veréis el antes y el después de mi banqueta. 

This old hotel luggage bench has been for quite a while around at my patio. Even very deteriorated and rusty I thought it could have lot's of potential and when I received the new outdoor paint: Autentico Versante at OPENstudio79, y did not doubt a minute to make a transformation project for my Creative Weekends tutorial.

Creative Weekends: Pastel Triangle Mural

Creative Weekends: Collar I-Cord

A veces tenemos restos de lana que nos han sobrado de algún proyecto de punto y que guardamos porque no los queremos tirar. En este tutorial os propongo utilizarlos para hacer unos collares modernos y sencillos. Para ello, os voy a a enseñar a montar puntos de manera provisional y a hacer una cuerda de punto con dos agujas de tejer de doble punta.

En inglés esta técnica se llama i-cord y fue inventada por la tejedora y diseñadora británica Elisabeth Zimmermann (1910-1999). Bromenado, ella solía llamar a esta técnica "Cuerda de Idiota" (Idiot Cord), ya que su descubrimiento fue puramente accidental. Con este tutorial aprenderéis a hacer estos collares de punto, que podréis customizar con otros tipos de hilos, texturas y piezas tubulares.

Sometimes we have many yarn leftovers from our knitting projects that we keep because we don't want to throw them away. With this tutorial I invite you to use these bits of yarn and to make with them easy, modern and stylish necklaces. The technique that I am going to show you is the provisional cast on and how to knit a tube with two doble pointed needles. 
This technique is called i-cord and was invented by the british knitter and designer Elizabeth Zimmermann (1910-1999). She named it Idiot Cord due to her accidental discovery of this simple technique. I hope that I can show you with this tutorial how to do this knitted tubes and necklaces that you can customize as you wish with other type of yarn, texture and tubular pieces.

Creative weekends: Hanami mallorquín

La palabra japonesa Hanami significa contemplar las flores y es uno de los acontecimientos más esperados cuando florecen los cerezos en Japón. En Mallorca tenemos nuestro Hanami singular, el de los almendros en flor, que en esta época del año se llenan de un manto blanco y rosa pálido. Desde siempre me ha fascinado esta flor, que intensamente bella es también sinónimo de lo efímero de la vida y el pasar incesante del tiempo. Este post es mi pequeño homenaje a la flor del almendro, al color rosa pálido, al frescor de la naturaleza y a las cosas naturalmente sencillas.

The Japanese word of Hanami means contemplating flowers and it is one of the most beloved events when de cherry trees blossom in Japan. In Mallorca we have our very special Hanami, the one of the almond tree blossoms that fill the landscape at this time of the year with a pale pink and white mantle. I have always felt fascinated by this flower, immensely beautiful and also synonym of the ephemeral in life and the passing of time. This post is my little homage to the almond flower, to the color pale pink, to the freshness of nature and the naturally simple things.

Una vitrina con un "new look"

En OPENstudio79 nos hacía falta una vitrina para exponer nuestros pequeños tesoros. En un mercadillo benéfico compramos una pieza que había sido la parte superior de un escritorio mallorquín. Le faltaban algunos listones de madera en los cristales... pero justamente eso hacía la vitrina más interesante. Aunque la madera estaba en buen estado nos apetecía darle un "new look" y este es el resultado.

For our little treasures we needed a glass cabinet in OPENstudio79. At a charity market we bought a furniture piece that had been part of a Mallorcan office desk. There was a wood panel on one of the glasses missing....but that's what we liked about. The wood was in good shape, but we liked to give it a new look and this is the result.

Timberland celebra el 40 aniversario de las Yellow Boot y he sido invitada a transformar unas de estas fantásticas botas. Me gustaba la idea de mantener la bota lo más natural posible y de convertirla en un paisaje natural...

Timberland is celebrating the 40th aniversary of it's yellow boot and I was invited to transform a pair of their fantastic boots. I liked the idea of keeping the boot as natural as posible and making a landscape out of it...

DOT monster

Esperamos que Paul Klee (1879-1940) no se ofenda, porque una de sus preciosas pinturas  ha sido la inspiración para crear estos monstruos de cara redonda.

We hope that Paul Klee (1879-1940) is not mad at us because one of his beautiful paintings has inspired us to create these round face dot monster.

Origami inspiration

En theOPENstudio79 somos fans del origami...y nos hemos enamorado de estos elefantes diseñados por Fumiaki Kawahata  que Leyla Torres explica con mucha maestría en este tutorial. Es fascinante ver como un trozo de papel cuadrado se convierte poco a poco en uno de estos adorables animalitos. Hemos utilizado dos tamaños de papel para hacer los elefantes: el grande con un papel blanco de tamaño 21 x 21 cm y los pequeños con papel de origami de colores de 15 x 15 cm.

TheOPENstudio loves origami ...and we have fallen in love with these elephants designed by Fumiaki Kawahata which Leyla Torres explains in a masterly way in this tutorial. It is fascinating to see how a piece of paper transforms itself little by little into one of these adorable animals.We have used two sizes of paper to do the elephants:  the big one with a white light paper 21 x 21 cm and the little ones with coloured origami paper 15 x 15 cm.
